SLANGUAGE DOCUMENTARY 1st draft

As this was our first draft we had a lot to improve on... My teacher asked us to improve on the beginning of the documentary as it wasn't sending out the right message to the audience and might make people feel uncomfortable. There was no labelling on the interviews which leaft the audience not knowing who were the people talking throughout the documentary. Also, another thing we needed to improve on was the interaction, the documentary as a whole was not teaching the audience anything, it was not interesting enough to watch... Therefore with all the comments we are know going to sit down as a team and figure out a way to change bits and piecies to make our documentary a good entertainment for our target audience.

Institution

Me and my group looked at various documentaries and where they were shown. We were between channel 4 and BBC Three as both of them show similar documentaries on their channel. After taking a close look at the research we decided the our documentary will be best classified as BBC Three because it's where the target audience that we are aiming are.
BBC Three show entertaining and factual documentaries which is what we are planning to do.

Details: First broadcast BBC Three, 9:00PM Thu

When we went to film in Trafagal Sq. and Carnaby Street we all participated in using the camera, Jamilla and I took photos, Tobore was the main director, Victoria filmed her part as the presenter and Jamilla went out to look for interviewees that would be willing to answer our questions; explaining to them what our production was about and if they could share their opinions about it.

Questions to ask the public

Jamilla came up with four questions to ask the public based on the documentary I showed the group about slang:

1.) Is slang a Habbit?
2.) Do you use slang in your everyday speech even in formal situations.? E.g. Innit
3.) Do you think the use of slang is due to technology or the influence of the media?
4.) What is your favorite slang word.

Where the name came from...

Slanguage

This BBC news article is where the name "Slanguage" came from. I found this in my English lesson when my teacher was giving us information about slang words and I found it really interesting as it relates to our production...

New Group Task PowerPoint...

This powerpoint that I did was a task given by Ms Connell and me and the group had to divide the tasks. I had to:
* Research more on the Slang topic by looking for articles.
* Plan on what would happen in each episode.
* Plan for what would happen in each minute.
* Research into what the logo and title would look like.

Slang Presentation

Presentation put together by Me and Jamilla.

Thursday, 7 October 2010

Example of a logo

I came up with this example of a logo, just to have an idea of what it could be:

-> I liked it because it's creative as it contains an image of a camera (relevant image to the production), and also it has the initials of everyone in the group (Jamilla, Mariana, Tobore and Victoria).

Does slang reflect badly on school pupils?

From the BBC website, a news on slang used by students. Click here! To watch the 01.26 mins of the video. This was a research that I did, to give me and my group ideas for our own production.

Documentary: Koyaanisqatsi

Today at lunch I watched this picture documentary to help me do my own production, these are the notes I made from watching it:

* Starts in slow motion- classic music/slow.
* No presenter/ no talking.
* Just images.
* Music starts to speed up together with the images (almost as if the music is following the image's speed).

Documentary: Because We're Worth It - The Taxpayers' Rich List

Today at lunch I watched a documentary from BBC called Panorama, "The world's longest running investigative TV show" to get some ideas for my own production.
These are the notes I made:

* It starts with a voice over + moving images + highlights on something that someone said to introduce the episode.
* Moving images to show location (relevant images)
* Panning shot on the presenter
* Creative editing to show statistics
* Narrator (voice over) explains what is happening
* When introducing someone new on the program they put their name + logo +status of the person:

* Interviews in different places: car, office and road
* First presenter is different to the one who does the documentary
* The presenter is not shown, neither is the question recorded, they just show the response
* The name of the program was designed with the logo which I thought was very creative:

* The main presenter gives the website so that if you want to watch the previous episodes you can find it there:
* At the end the have "next on panorama..." with highlights of the next episode
* Credits + Name of documentary + website + Editor's logo (BBC):

Inspirational Documentaries...

These videos I used for my presentation, but as it doesn't show on the slide I've uploaded them here.

Idea for documentary introduction...

This was the first video that I used for my presentation, but as it doesn't show on the slide I've uploaded it here.

A2 individual presentation

I made this presentation to show my ideas and to plan ahead of what I would like to do for my main idea. I also looked at different documentaries so that I could have an idea for what I wanted to do, and it also inspired me because it showed that my idea was more original as the other documentaries because they only focus on their way of life and I would be focusing on a specific element: injury.
On my presentation I wanted to be as organized as I could by writing less and having more images and videos. That way people would understand more and not get bored.

A2 Media Blog

As grade: B
AS score: 158
AS marks to next grade: +2=A

G321- Foundation Portfolio: 74/100= B
G322- Key Media Concepts (tv drama)= 84/100= A

I'm happy with my grade, but it would be even better if I had an A for this course, but I will improve this year so that I can get an A grade as my final result. I will improve by: * Spending more time in the media room.
* Organizing myself more (by blogging and writing down the schedules).
* Putting more effort into my work.
* Working more as a group.

Last year 13 coursework...
I think that the year 13 last year did a really good job, i really liked the documentaries and their ideas. A good one was about women in comic books, they used lots of different angle shots and they included good interviews on the subject which I think it worked well. Even better if they controlled the background, because sometimes it doesn't allow the viewer to listen to what the "presenter" is saying.

However the most effective documentary was the facebook one:
because it's a subject that involves lots of people nowadays, and it's something to be concerned about. The explored the subject by having an example (which was a girl who they interviewed).

My ideas for year 13 coursework is to do a documentary:
*About skaters (Sk8rs) culture and their way of life.
*Brazilian culture in London (focusing on the church culture).
